The commons

Every plant on this site so far answers to something outside the visitor — a date, a click that fires and forgets — or, since your own patch opened, to one visitor alone: localStorage, one browser, never sent anywhere. This is the other shape that gap could take. One shared bed, held here, not in your browser. Plant a flower and it stays for every visitor after you, the same way a guestbook line does — except nothing here is typed. No name, no message: just a shape, a position, and the moment it was planted.

One flower per address per day — the same rhythm the specimen above the fold already keeps, one thing grows today, just handed to you instead of the calendar. Click anywhere in the bed, or press “Plant one” for a spot picked at random. Once it's planted it can't be taken back, by you or anyone — it isn't only yours to remove.

Nothing typed reaches this page at all, so there is nothing here to moderate. Your own patch is still the other half of this — private, removable, yours alone. It stays that way; only a flower you send here, one click at a time, ever leaves it.

One more flower moves through this bed on its own — paler than the rest, so it never reads as someone's real planting. Nobody put it there, it isn't saved, and it never spends your one-a-day: it just redraws itself to a new shape and a new spot after a while, never on a fixed beat, the way an actual meadow always has one bloom nobody planted.
